A Harvest Moon Wedding Filled with Colour and Joy

Harvest Moon Wedding - Sophie and Fiona

“We couldn’t be happier with how fantastic (Lauren and her assistant Sinead) both were. It felt like they were our friends from the moment we met them and they made us feel extremely at ease. Both AMAZING”

When I tell you I laughed and cried my way through this Harvest Moon wedding, well, you can just imagine how much fun I had. And I also sustained my first ever wedding injury! Yep, read on to find out more about that. Although the tears were the usual, happy emotional ones, not from my trauma!

Sophie and Fiona, what can I say?! They are just the most happy, chilled out and fun loving souls and their Harvest Moon wedding day was a real reflection of the two of them. It was epic.

Harvest Moon is an incredible wedding venue on the Dunbar coast. It offers couples the choice between beach or woodland weddings. How do you choose?! For Fiona and Sarah - who live to paddleboard, wild swim and explore the coast - it was a no brainer. The beach! However, being in Scotland, the weather just didn’t play ball. It was far too cold and windy so the ceremony was held in the marquee. All wasn’t lost as the marquee windows looked out over the windswept beach, a beautiful view whatever the weather.

Everyone was staying onsite for the wedding weekend, friends and family were in beach huts or tree houses. It felt like one huge party, especially as it was BYOB! Fiona and Sarah ventured out that morning for a pre-wedding swim (hardcore, it was freezing!) before coming back to get ready.

Their Humanist ceremony was led by the wonderful Katie Brown. She has such a calm and lovely personality and put everyone at ease. Two of their friends, Matt and Rob, played the bagpipes. Piping Fiona and her Dad down the aisle to “Wild Mountain Thyme” before Sarah, and her Dad, followed to the sound of “Skye Boat Song”. They had an absolute team of bridesmaids (all hilarious and looking fab in their colourful dresses and trainers) who spent the whole day laughing and giggling alongside Sarah and Fiona. What a squad!

We managed to get down to the beach for some portraits. They’d brought along a bottle of fizz for a champagne spray photo. My one rule “Don’t spray it at the camera”. Fiona had other ideas! We were all soaked! It was hilarious and we couldn’t speak for laughing. The camera survived, phew!

Back up at the marquee the atmosphere was amazing, so much joy in one room! When Fiona and Sarah were piped in everyone roared and cheered. The cake cut descended into mayhem, wonderful mayhem when someone put on Shania Twain’sMan! I Feel Like a Woman”. Everyone was on their feet, dancing, singing, swaying and clapping to the music. The dance floor was packed and they hadn’t even eaten their dinner!

Next Sophie decided to throw her bouquet. A pretty regular part of a wedding. However, I hadn’t anticipated just how competitive this lot were! She tossed those flowers and…carnage! An elbow to the eye. My eye. Ouch! Thank goodness for the lovely Sinead who was along with me that day. I couldn’t see out of my eye for the best part of an hour and she worked super hard, snapping away and capturing the final speech until I could join her again. Thanks to everyone who looked after me and showed concern. I’m fine and it’s a wonderful tale to tell!
